Whisky, Guitars, and the Last Song

There is a particular moment after a good night of music when the room finally settles. The cables are still warm, somebody is talking about the song that nearly got away from us, and a small pour of whisky feels less like a celebration than punctuation.

Whisky and roots music share a few useful qualities. Neither benefits from being rushed. The rough edges are part of the point. And the memorable ones tend to leave a little warmth behind after they are gone.

We are not precious about either one. The right whisky is the one you enjoy, and the right last song is the one that sends everyone home smiling. Some nights that means a slow one with room to breathe. Other nights it means one more loud chorus because nobody is quite ready to call it.

Here is to good company, responsible pours, ringing ears, packed cables, and the road home.
